Lately I have had requests from friends to develop websites for them. So I embarked on this new journey to begin fooling around with developing basic websites and to have them show up on google. I figured how hard could it be to get on google. Especially, if i was building an industry specific website for someone such as a physical therapy website for a new business in Macon, GA. It has actually turned out to be a much harder endeavor and as of recently I have found out that there are companies out there that specialize in this and charge quit a lot of money to do this. I put together this list that I came up with. It is by no means the only way to go about getting googled. But it worked for me and it was free.
Step 1: Submit to yahoo’s free suggest a link service. Click here for the link to it.
Step 2: Submit to the dmoz open directory here.
Step 3: Submit to the following crawlers: Google crawler & Microsoft live search
Step 4: Submit to the openlist website. This one is more for trying to get local businesses on google rather than blogs or things like that.
Step 5: Submit to yellowpages. Same goes for this one as for openlist.
Step 6: Last thing that really put me over the top and get on the first page of google was to put links to these new sites on my other sites. If you have a site that is already indexed by google, then i would definitely put a link back to the site you are trying to get indexed.
Again, this is by no means a comprehensive list but I did these and it worked for me. I am still working on getting my sites to come up by googling specific words. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this i am all ears.
